What is counselling and is it for me?
Counselling is a confidential relational therapy which can help alleviate a broad range of emotional and psychological issues. These include depression, anxiety, panic, bereavement, addiction, abuse, relationship concerns, identity and many more. It can also be useful for those who have formal diagnoses of mental health and developmental conditions.
Most clients find counselling radically enhances wellbeing and changes life. Some clients need particular support during a tough period in life. For others, fundamental change is essential and counselling may be longer term.
It can be a daunting prospect to come forward for counselling, but I hope you would find me approachable and respectful. An initial session will help clarify your needs and hopes regarding counselling, give you a sense of what counselling would be like, and help you decide whether I may be a good match for you as a Counsellor.
How I work as a Person-Centred Counsellor
I work with clients as whole people who have unique identity and culture, aiming to build deeply respectful and supportive therapeutic relationships. When a sense of safety and trust can be created, I find clients can usually explore even the most painful experiences and parts of themselves. It is the development of a quality therapeutic relationship that empowers clients to greater self-understanding and enduring improvements to wellbeing. Research has consistently shown Person-Centred approaches to be effective.
